What is Reflection Collective?

REFLECTION COLLECTIVE is a series of virtual workshops and offerings from filmmaker and facilitator, Amanda Madden, that uses filmmaking and creative practice as a portal to seeing and being seen. RC holds space for current and future artists, filmmakers, dreamers, and/or creators to explore DIY and experimental filmmaking practices with a focus on exploration, introspection, and connection. Through a monthly drop-in gathering and various workshops, we dive into creative and cathartic process over product, build rituals and containers for creativity, and weave together artistic vision with self discovery.

We vision, map, experiment, create, and share with one another in order to practice vulnerability and expression.

We use video because of its many-layered possibility, multiplicity, ability to disrupt time, and embodied experience.

We create and connect in an effort to deepen our artistic integrity and inspire our commitments as artists to become creators of a more beautifully just world.

2024 Offerings

monthly drop-in group (first Sunday of each month)

This is a monthly virtual gathering for creative community. It can be lonely, thrilling, and complex to be an artist and creative human. This space is for us to gather in solidarity – for feedback and discussion, mutual support and affirmation, accountability and (re)commitment.

Like a support group for artists!

individual or small group creativity support

One on one sessions for individuals, teams, or small groups in which you are supported in developing creative projects, building structures for your projects, creating systems of accountability, and integrating affirmation, ritual, and reflection into your creative process.

60 minute virtual sessions

reflection collective IS FOR YOU If -

You do not identify as a filmmaker, an artist, or an extrovert - you do not need to be anything, just you! Being a human is wildly creative and everyone holds creative expression.

You are a filmmaker or an artist and are interested in getting support, deepening your practice, exploring a new way of creating, and/or connecting with others.

You are able to show up with the intention for presence, curiosity, courage, vulnerability, question, and vision.

You desire and want to be part of creative community.

You are willing to practice imperfectionism and you are interested in embracing the process over a product.

Still from Home Abyss

Meet your facilitator – why me? WHy this?

I am a deep thinker, a big feeler, devoted to imagination, in continuous reflection and iteration, in love with change, committed to co-creating a better world, gently gripping hope in my hand.

My background and experience as a filmmaker, artist, educator, facilitator, space holder, activist, and community member/builder are the bricks that pave the path to this offering. After 15 years of making films, teaching artists and filmmakers, and initiating creative space for connection, Reflection Collective is my attempt to weave together my artistic integrity with my intentional contributions to a more beautifully just world.

You can read about my professional filmmaking and teaching experience and artistic approach here.

My films have always been templates - I dig deep, create, and then share not only because it is personally transformative but also because I am curious what others might create within the same constraints, whether that’s reimagining heartache, mapping our memories, ritualizing our relationship with our home spaces, interacting with the ghosts that haunt and inspire us, or initiating a spell.

I love film because of its multiplicity, weaving together many different mediums, it's ability to remind us that time is a malleable, non-linear thing, the potential of ritual in the technical, the complexity as an invitation into imperfection and experimentation, and the greater-than-the-sum-of-its-parts magic that emerges through the process. I have also been challenged, disappointed, and heartbroken by some of the industry. I want to build space for a community of radical artists who want to disrupt the brutal, extractive, capitalist practices of the field and create something new.

As I have grown into myself as an artist, I have been transformed by the process again and again. With each thing I’ve created, I’ve learned about myself and become the next more vulnerable, more committed version of myself. Reflection Collective is born from my desire and calling to support others through their own creative transformations.

I believe -

in a world where we are more capable of seeing ourselves and each other

that creative expression is a revolutionary strategy

that filmmaking is an incredible portal to seeing and being seen

that Experimentation and process contain the deepest wisdom

that Creativity and community depend on each other.
