Video poetry workshop

2-part workshop (September 16th + 30th)

15 spots available

In this 2-part virtual workshop, participants will explore pairing text with image to create their own video poem. Using your own poetry or a favorite poem by someone else, we will use experimental filmmaking techniques such as color, texture, pattern, light, juxtaposition and rhythm to combine the poetic form with video to create layered pieces. Strategies for ideating, shooting with a phone camera, and editing will be shared. During the workshop, we will also collaborate on a shared video poem.

No film experience required.

What to expect:

Part 1 of this workshop will include framing of a video poem, prompts for developing a concept, tutorials for shooting and editing, practice time, and a collaborative exercise.

With 2 weeks in between sessions, participants are encouraged to continue independent work on their video poems.

Part 2 will be a mini film festival where participants will gather again to witness and celebrate one another’s films and share their creations, processes, and experiences in community.
